I can sit up (with some assistance)

July 28th, 2008 by Jen

We bought Josie a Bumbo to allow her to sit up by herself. She isn’t too sure about the sitting position, she generally prefers standing, but it does give a good vantage point to watch me clean the litter box.

Don’t you eat your toys?

July 27th, 2008 by Jen

I’ve got a cool new trick. I can shove my toys in my mouth and chew on them. Then I can rotate the toy, and chew on a different part. Sometimes I get frustrated though when it just won’t fit in my mouth!

Pawtucket Red Sox bring the heat

July 23rd, 2008 by Jen

This past Sunday we jetted down to Rhode Island during Josie’s morning nap to catch a PawSox game (AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox). We met up with our friends Koos, Stef and Xander and watched 3 and a half innings before we decided that we should stop roasting the small children. It was _really_ hot even though we were under the roof and in the shade. While I didn’t actually know who won the game (upon looking, PawSox were unfortunately defeated) we saw an excellent defensive play where the center fielder took away a home run by literally reaching over the wall!

Daddy carrier

Now that Josie is strong enough to face forward in her baby bjorn she is learning to enjoy it on nightly walks with her daddy carrying her! Jordi doesn’t really want to wear the Moby wrap as it pretty much makes you look pregnant which isn’t bad for me, but rather awkward for him.

Josie’s Songs – Part 2

July 20th, 2008 by Jordi

Our first post about Josie after she was born was titled, “Hello, Josephine”. That happens to be the title of one of my favorite of the songs with Josie’s name. Also often known as “My Girl Josephine”, I believe it was originally written and performed by Fats Domino and then covered by many people, including Jerry Lee Lewis and Van Morrison. This version below is by Jerry Jaye.

On Monday I took out my work bag, preparing to return to work on Tuesday. Apparently the cats recognized it because here’s what they thought of that idea:

Cat vomit on work bag

And while Josie was in good hands with grandma during the day while I was at work and survived the bottles, by the end of the day Wednesday I was in agreement with the cats and decided to tender my resignation on Friday. Therefore for the time being I will be a stay-at-home mom and continue to take care of Josie. Jordi will continue to be a work-at-home dad because his company doesn’t have office space. We will all have more family time together, a less hectic life, and a bit less money. My hats off to the moms pumping milk for their babies at work. My two days of doing it was less than fun, even though it was successful. I anticipate rejoining the workforce when I get bored of the home routine and Josie is a bit older.

Everybody should watch this. I wonder if Neil Patrick Harris will actually bring back the movie musical.

No…High School Musical does not count.

I gotta get me some of that wonderflonium.

My name is Josie and I…

  • can fit four fingers in my mouth at once
  • now make ‘grrrrr’ noises and grunt a lot
  • can successfully grab the pull toys on my yellow boucey seat. Have decided that pulling the strings to make the bird spin is for wimps, I just hit the bird to make it spin instead.

Josie’s Songs – Part 1

July 16th, 2008 by Jordi

Before settling on a name for our daughter, I embarked on what I considered a necessary exercise. I searched for songs that mention her name. It turns out that there are some great songs written about girls named Josie and Josephine. This first song is Josie by Blink-182. When Jen and I started dating (over 10 years ago!), I made her a mix CD and this was one of the songs on it. Prophetic indeed.

More songs to come…
